The Casting Process

 

We are your one-stop shop for tooling, castings, and machining for everything from one-off prototypes to production runs.

As each step of the process has implications for the process as a whole, we believe the goal should be an end-to-end optimization, not optimization of the individual steps.

 

Step 1 – Engineering & Design

We believe in a collaborative design process. We work with you to optimize the design of your part for manufacturing. Size, accuracy, level of detail, and budget are some of the factors in determining the best manufacturing process for your project.

Step 2 – Pattern

Pattern tooling and dies are used to create the cavity that gives your part its shape. Budget, level of production, and foundry are some factors that will influence the pattern design and material choice. We use CNC machining to translate the design into a physical part without error.

Step 3 – Casting

Your tool will go to a foundry where it will be used to create a mold of your part. To create the casting molten metal is poured into the mold. Size, metal alloy, and casting process are some factors in the foundry selection.

Step 4 – Machining

When needed, castings are machined to add details that couldn’t be cast and to bring the part to its final dimensions.
